You already loaded your prospects as Salesforce Leads. You set their Lead Source to your purchased list provider. Why isn’t there a standard Salesforce report for your best email open rates?

Salesforce’s regular database slows down after 50 million records. Heavy email marketing customer can easily reach that limit. Instead, Salesforce stores HTML Email Opens separate from Lead lists. They don’t link them, so you only see Lead Name and Email in the standard Salesforce HTML Email Opens report.

Create New Fields for Email Open Data

To relate Leads and email opens, I created new Activity fields matching the HTML Email Opens report:

  • Opened
  • # of Opens
  • First Opened Date
  • Last Opened Date

To filter these in the report, I’ll also import them with a Type of “HTML Email”.

Migrate Your Email Open Data

Since HTML Email Opens is special data, you can’t export it wih tools like Dataloader.io. Instead, Export as Excel from the Report itself. This exports a CSV file:

 

Best Email Opens as Salesforce Activities

 

I import the new Activities using Dataloader.io. Since I named my new fields exactly the same, it even matches them with the file columns! Now both Leads and Email Opens are in the standard Salesforce database for reporting.
